New GIFA and METEC Indonesia from 2023: Messe Düsseldorf is banking on a strong growth market

The new events, GIFA and METEC Indonesia, create new platforms for the emerging Indonesian metallurgyand foundry industries. Messe Düsseldorf is supporting Indonesia’s strong economic growth, opening up an attractive market for international companies and strengthening the world’s leading trade fairs – GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS and NEWCAST – which will take place again next year at their home base in Düsseldorf under the banner ‘The Bright World of Metals’.
Düsseldorf/Singapore, 9 June 2022. GIFA and METEC Indonesia will take place in Jakarta for the first time from 13 to 16 September 2023. They offer Indonesia’s metallurgy and foundry industry – which is experiencing sustained growth – a new, professional marketplace and provide international industry players with access to an attractive market of the future. Behind the new trade fairs are Messe Düsseldorf Asia (MDA) in Singapore, the Messe Düsseldorf Group’s subsidiary for the South-East Asian market, and PT Pamerindo Indonesia, Indonesia’s leading trade fair organiser and part of Informa Markets, one of the world’s largest trade fair companies.
GIFA and METEC Indonesia logically expand Messe Düsseldorf’s ‘Metallurgy & Foundry Technologies’ portfolio, which, under the umbrella of ‘The Bright World of Metals’, brings together the world’s leading trade fairs: GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS and NEWCAST. Every four years, they bring together the global market leaders in metallurgy and foundry technology in Düsseldorf. At the same time, satellite events held around the world serve as important marketplaces for various regions. The focus of this expansion is on growth markets: following METEC India (2004) and GIFA and METEC Southeast Asia, which will take place for the first time in Thailand in October 2022, GIFA and METEC Indonesia 2023 will mark the next milestone.
Focus on growth markets
Wolfram N. Diener, Chairman of the Management Board of Messe Düsseldorf, emphasises the benefits for all parties: “We are going where we see the greatest potential: Asia, Latin America and Africa. There is a great need for investment in industry and infrastructure here – as well as for professional trade and networking platforms to drive these projects forward. This pays off for local industries, for economic growth in the target markets and for our international customers, for whom new business opportunities arise. Gernot Ringling, Managing Director of Messe Düsseldorf Asia, highlights Indonesia’s particular significance in this context: “Indonesia, a G20 member, is already the largest economy in South-East Asia and the tenth largest in the world. Forecasts show that the upward trend is set to continue. Indonesia will steadily build on its position – as signalled by the numerous infrastructure schemes and large-scale industrial projects visible throughout the country. Trade fairs can play a part in this success story and actively help shape it.” The International Monetary Fund (IMF) forecasts that Indonesia’s gross domestic product (GDP) will grow by 5.4 per cent this year alone; by 2023, it is expected to rise to six per cent.
Comprehensive range
GIFA and METEC Indonesia will showcase a comprehensive range of machinery, plant and technologies, ranging from additive manufacturing and foundry machinery to processing plant and new technologies for end-user industries across various vertical markets – from the automotive industry, the construction sector and the energy and gas sectors to users in metal and steelworks.
The trade fair duo will take place alongside Mining Indonesia, which PT Pamerindo Indonesia will be organising for the 20th time in 2023. Southeast Asia’s largest international trade fair for mining equipment, mineral extraction and processing will offer welcome synergies to the metallurgy and foundry companies at GIFA and METEC Indonesia. Together, the trade fairs form an integrated business platform for the supply chain in the mining, metallurgy and foundry sectors.
Ian Roberts, Vice President of Informa Markets Asia, emphasises the added value of this collaboration: “The joint event will open up further growth opportunities for the Indonesian metalworking and foundry industry. Furthermore, as the largest economy in South-East Asia, the country offers new and broader business potential, particularly in view of the government’s plans to make Indonesia a production hub for South-East Asia.“
Strong industrial trade fairs
At the same time, Messe Düsseldorf is further expanding its strong position as an organiser of leading industrial trade fairs. Bernd Jablonowski, Head of Operational Trade Fair Business, emphasises the importance of this business segment: “Machinery, plant and equipment are our core area of expertise. We offer platforms for a wide variety of industries: anyone wishing to succeed in this field – whether internationally or in specific markets – must come to Messe Düsseldorf.” The “Bright World of Metals” is thematically complemented by the “Wire, Tube & Flow Technologies” portfolio (wire, cable and tube technologies, as well as industrial fittings) featuring the world’s leading trade fairs, wire and Tube. These will bring together international industry players in Düsseldorf from 20 to 24 June 2022. Running in parallel from 21 to 24 June is METAV, the international trade fair for metalworking technologies, organised by the VDW (Association of German Machine Tool Manufacturers). The engineering companies participating in these three trade fairs will thus be able to benefit from the complementary offerings.
In addition, there is VALVE WORLD EXPO, the international trade fair for industrial valves and fittings, which will take place in Düsseldorf from 29 November to 1 December. Together with all their satellite events, these trade fairs form a global network of thematically complementary events, which is now being enriched by GIFA and METEC Indonesia. This comes at exactly the right time, as Friedrich-Georg Kehrer, Global Portfolio Director at Messe Düsseldorf, explains: “Companies are reorganising their global production and procurement structures, and the economy is in the midst of a recovery: with our world-leading trade fairs and our diverse, international trade fair network, we offer companies a foundation for sustainable and stable international business.”
Growing international presence
Messe Düsseldorf is also expanding in other sectors: following the launch of two new international trade fairs in 2021 (ProWine São Paulo, ProWine Mumbai), a total of seven new events are planned for 2022 (REHACARE SHANGHAI, MEDICAL FAIR BRASIL, COLOMBIAPLAST, CorruTec Asia, GIFA Southeast Asia, METEC Southeast ASIA, FoodAfrica Cairo). Until the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, these international activities had led to steadily growing visitor numbers at the Düsseldorf venue – with a particularly marked increase in international participation. Among companies exhibiting at trade fairs, the proportion of international exhibitors is generally well over 70 per cent – both before and during the pandemic.
