The NEWCAST Award is a real highlight of the Bright World of Metals and has been presented at every NEWCAST since 2003. In a festive ceremony today, Wolfram Diener, Managing Director of Messe Düsseldorf, presented the trophies to Impro International Ltd (Hong Kong), DGH Sand Casting Corporate GmbH & Co. KG (Friedrichshafen) and Feinguss Blank GmbH (Riedlingen). With the support of the jury from the Federal Association of the German Foundry Industry, the winners were selected in the run-up to the trade fair in the following three categories:

  • The best substitution of another manufacturing process
  • The cast component with the best functional integration
  • The best lightweight construction solution

For a ‘distributor’ weighing 5.43 kilograms, which was produced using the investment casting process, the ‘Substitution Award’ went to the Hong Kong-based company Impro International, represented by Kailiang Chen (Managing Director of Impro Europe SARL & Impro Deutschland GmbH) and Volker Ritzel (Sales Manager at Impro Deutschland GmbH). It is worth noting that a part which had previously required extensive machining was replaced by a cost-effective stainless steel casting – thereby enabling resource-efficient and sustainable manufacturing.

Johannes Zeiler (Head of Sales & Marketing at DGH Sand Casting Corporate) and Dr Jürgen Reusch (Innovation Manager) accepted the award for the “Cast Component with the Best Functional Integration” for the water-cooled electric motor housing. The eight-kilogramme housing was produced using the aluminium sand casting process and impresses with its outstanding integration of various functions, such as water and oil cooling within a single housing whilst requiring minimal installation space.

Feinguss Blank from Riedlingen received the award for the ‘Best Lightweight Construction Solution’ – specifically for a 256-gramme wheel carrier produced using investment casting via the lost-wax process. Through the use of state-of-the-art simulation methods, a significant weight reduction of more than 30 per cent was achieved. Hubert Deutsch (Managing Director) and Lionel Genesi (Head of Industrial Sales) accepted the trophy from Wolfram Diener.

The award-winning entries are on display until the end of GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS & NEWCAST in the Forum in Hall 13, Stand D 04.
