Laempe secures Herborner Pumpentechnik as a new customer for its 3D printers
Herborner has relied on Laempe since 1985 – until now in the field of core shooting machines. With the new L3D-200, the company is now pursuing the strategic goal of additively manufacturing not only cores but also casting moulds in-house in future. The system is being used for prototypes and small production runs, which are the norm in Herborner’s production environment: the medium-sized family-run company is one of the leading suppliers of centrifugal pumps for the water treatment, swimming pool technology, industrial and maritime sectors.
Customised solutions through a modular design
The decision was made following an in-depth market analysis and visits to existing Laempe users, including BMW and INACORE. Representatives from Herborner Pumpentechnik were able to see for themselves the practical benefits and the system’s performance on site. With its own iron foundry and ‘Made in Germany’ development expertise, Herborner has been committed to innovation, quality and sustainability for more than 150 years. The integration of additive manufacturing is a further step towards future-proofing the company’s own production:

The open system architecture and the foundry-compatible design make the L3D-200 the ideal solution for us”, says Torsten Kumpf, foundry manager at Herborner Pumpentechnik.
The open system architecture also allows for a free choice of binder and moulding material – a unique selling point compared to the competition. Potential features such as bidirectional operation or full automation of the entire process are already in the pipeline.
Strategic milestone for Laempe
With the sale of the L3D-200 to Herborner Pumpentechnik, Laempe is continuing to develop its additive manufacturing business segment.

Outlook: Expected to set a precedent for the industry
Delivery of the plant is scheduled for 2026. Laempe is already working on the design for a potential expansion, as the customer is also planning structural work for an expansion project. “We expect our L3D-200 to make a significant contribution to the future-proof development of our customer’s foundry,” Andreas Mössner continued. “The demand for flexible, cost-effective and foundry-suitable 3D printing solutions, as well as traditional core-shooting machines and automation solutions, will continue to be key differentiators for our customers in the future.”
