OTTO JUNKER’s technological solutions: Fonderie De Riccardis switches to CO₂-neutral operations
To this end, the company commissioned OTTO JUNKER GmbH to supply and commission a Triosystem plant, consisting of three 12-tonne induction furnaces and a common DC converter with two IGBT inverters and a melting capacity of 8 MW. The new furnace technology enables flexible, energy-efficient production and reduces emissions to a minimum – a key step in the Italian company’s sustainability strategy.
The concept is characterised by flexible load distribution: one furnace can be operated at full capacity, whilst the other two are used in parallel for holding or sintering processes. This is controlled via a central PLC architecture in conjunction with the JUMI control panels. This architecture reduces investment and maintenance costs, as not every furnace requires its own inverter, whilst also minimising the space required. Above all, however, it optimises energy usage and increases plant availability.
The induction furnaces are supplemented by three charging machines from General Kinematics, an automatic overhead crane from Bonfanti, an automatic ladle transport system from Progelta S.r.l. and a dust extraction system from Dizeta Impianti S.r.l. Another key element of the decarbonisation strategy is the new 2.6 MW photovoltaic system, which will in future support the energy-intensive melting process directly with renewable energy. The intelligent system integration helps to optimise the plant’s own electricity consumption.
The plant has been operating successfully since February 2025. With this project at Fonderie De Riccardis, OTTO JUNKER is once again contributing to the transformation of the foundry industry towards greater energy efficiency and CO₂ neutrality. The systematic approach to plant design enables the implementation of bespoke solutions for a variety of operating conditions – a key factor for success in the industrial energy transition.
“This project demonstrates how even ambitious goals such as decarbonisation in the foundry sector can be achieved step by step in collaboration with strong partners. We are delighted to be supporting Fonderie De Riccardis S.r.l. on this journey – and wish them continued success,” says Andreas von Wachtendonk, Senior Sales Manager at OTTO JUNKER
