Innovative business model: Sand as a Service (SaaS)

As part of the new partnership, AGVS is integrating the solution developed by Resand for the reprocessing of foundry sand into its manufacturing processes. The underlying service concept is based on a usage-oriented ‘Sand-as-a-Service’ approach. Regeneration takes place directly at the foundry in Villingen-Schwenningen, meaning the reclaimed sand can be reused immediately without any detours. The target volume is around 9,000 tonnes per year, including various types of sand such as green sand and cold-box sand.

According to AGVS, the decisive factor in the collaboration was, above all, the combination of immediate availability, tried-and-tested technology and a commercially compelling business model. A key objective is to significantly reduce the demand for new sand. At the same time, the aim is to reduce transport distances, cut emissions and minimise landfill volumes.

For Resand, the partnership represents a further step in expanding its market presence. CEO Mikko Immonen emphasises that industrial customers with complex requirements in particular will benefit from the solution and can achieve both economic and environmental advantages in the long term.

Resand Ltd in the spotlight

Industrial sand is increasingly becoming a scarce resource worldwide. However, the recycling and reuse of foundry sand offers an effective way to reduce the demand for newly extracted sand and limit negative impacts on ecosystems. The Finnish company Resand Ltd specialises precisely in this area and provides its customers with reclaimed sand resources as part of a service concept. Resand® technology enables foundry sand to be recycled almost entirely, whilst simultaneously reducing transport costs and CO₂ emissions.

Resand’s head office is located in Nuutajärvi, Finland. The company also has teams in several European countries and is pursuing an ambitious growth strategy – both within Europe and in international markets. The aim is to establish the circular use of sand as an industry standard.
