Our products

Product category: Compacted graphite cast iron

Melting shop

Our ultra-modern medium-frequency melting facility is capable of producing up to 75,000 tons of cast iron per year in a variety of GJL, GJV, and GJS material grades. Being highly flexible, our melting operation is also ideal for handling short and medium production runs.

Our integrated quality assurance system with state-of-the-art testing methods like thermal and spectral analysis guarantees ACO’s high quality standards.

Simulation

It is in product development itself that we lay the foundations for the proverbial quality of ACO castings. We consistently invest in process optimisation and automation, setting standards by employing innovative pouring and load simulation methods and the latest 3-D design software. These programmes enable us to forecast a product's tensile strength, hardness distribution, shrinkage, and residual stress patterns.

In collaboration with our customers, we thus develop high-quality, cost-efficient components to production within the shortest possible time.

Core making shop

Our core making shop is equipped to meet a wide range of customer requirements quickly and flexibly, assisted whenever necessary by capable partners from the supplier industry.
Using modern core shooters, ACO produces cores having a volume of up to 40 litres by the cold box method.
Because of their high precision, the cores produced by us guarantee castings of maximum dimensional accuracy, shape accuracy, and quality.

Finishing shop

To give them their ultimate finish, our castings are carefully sand-blasted, ground, and deburred. In this way, we obtain the ACO quality which our customers need for downstream processing.
Before it is shipped, the dimensional and material quality of each component is subjected to a last test. Only after all related documents have been submitted and checked we will release a casting for further processing and/or shipment.
At the request of our customers, we prime castings with a variety of paints, including the customer's corporate colours.

About us

Company details

Leading-edge foundry technology, strongly rooted in the heart of Europe

Specialising in iron castings, ACO Guss GmbH is one of Europe's leading foundries, looking back on a long foundry tradition that has given us a great deal of knowhow. Founded in 1898 under the name of “Guss- und Armaturenwerk”, the Kaiserslautern plant has since 1997 been part of the internationally operating ACO Group, a strong and healthy family-owned enterprise.

Since that time, ACO Guss GmbH has continuously expanded into a high-technology production facility with a current melting capacity of some 75,000 tons per year.

At the Kaiserslautern site, around 240 motivated and qualified employees produce sophisticated, customised castings of all material grades on our moulding line as well as concast iron of the ACO Eurobar® brand on our continuous casting lines.

The ACO Guss philosophy: developing – casting – machining – service

Together with its national and international subsidiaries and sales companies, ACO Guss GmbH strives to collaborate with its customers in a spirit of partnership.

Together with our customers we develope ideas and translate them into customised products and we remain their reliable consultants even beyond the product itself, offering comprehensive service and support. Consistently expanding our subsidiaries and sales companies, we assure competent support in each region, quick delivery, and the availability of a wide range of products of proven ACO Guss and ACO Eurobar® concast quality across Europe.

Modern foundry operations protect resources and the environment

Ecology and sustainability are playing a more and more important role for ACO Guss GmbH. Being careful with resources and the environment in production is of great importance to us. This is one of the reasons why we in Kaiserslautern continuously invest in modernising our facilities and optimising our processes.

Thanks to our recent certification under ISO 50001 and our energy management system, we have for example increased the energy efficiency of our enterprise, reducing both our energy consumption and our CO2 emissions.
We pursue the same objective in developing innovative materials such as, for instance, our new ductile-iron grade with high silicon content. Because of its lower weight, it is an obvious alternative to steel, which makes it highly interesting against the background of the current discussion about lightweight construction and weight minimisation to reduce CO2 emissions. Moreover, ductile cast iron is 100% recyclable, which makes it an ideal material for 'green' technology.

A powerful subsidiary: ACO Eurobar – the continuous casting specialist

Forming part of ACO Guss GmbH, ACO Eurobar GmbH has for years been selling quality concast iron across Europe under the brand name of ACO Eurobar®. Thanks to continued investments in leading-edge system technology, the company is able to supply classical as-cast strands as well as pre-machined concast iron.
In conformance with its own factory standard and technical documentation, ACO Eurobar sells top-quality grey and nodular concast iron, guided by DIN EN 16482. The company specialises in turning, milling, drilling, and sawing ACO Eurobar® quality concast iron.
