Foseco will participate at the ecoMetals initiative during GIFA 2019 with following noveltiy:
Water-based coating for core making, which uses a color indicator to show the drying progress, dries faster and saves considerable energy costs.
Foseco has developed a water-based color-changing coating (SEMCO CC) for molds and cores that not only indicates drying progress, but also highlights unnecessary energy consumption where cores are dried too intensively, either by excessive oven temperatures or by dwell times in the oven that are too long. The potential savings from the new SEMCO CC water sizing system are immense. As an example, one foundry project partner has already saved 20% of total energy consumption in 2021 and eliminated all gas-related defects and rework. The second innovation is a water-based coating (SEMCO FD) that can help with the switch from solvent-based to water-based coatings. The SEMCO FD coating is designed to dry up to 25% faster than conventional water-based coatings. Given the solvent prices and restrictions at the onset of the pandemic, this innovation not only offers significant potential savings by eliminating solvent consumption, but in the same context also reduces VOC emissions, which is a clear benefit to the foundry. The concept of fast-drying coatings is unique in that it allows customers to apply coatings with a high solids content that are nevertheless very easy to process. The result is a much faster drying process, lower energy consumption and improved foundry efficiency.
A new fluoride emission-free, low VOC, high-exotherm, high-strength feeder material for iron foundries.
Foseco is launching FEEDEX FEF, a unique, fluoride emission-free, high-exotherm, high-strength feeder material with low VOC emissions that is ideal for fast-cycle, automatic molding lines. In this way, Foseco is supporting foundries with bentonite-bonded molding materials that want to reduce environmental impact and costs as demand for high-performance feeders increases. FEEDEX FEF thus meets sustainability goals and trends regarding the use and performance of modern riser auxiliaries. FEEDEX FEF also supports the foundry industry's efforts to reduce or eliminate harmful emissions and hazardous waste because it is free of fluoride emissions and contains fewer volatile organic compounds (VOCs) than commercially available alternatives. At the same time, it has been proven to deliver the highest thermal feed performance. To further support foundries' sustainability goals, FEEDEX FEF is manufactured with a novel, binder system produced from renewable resources. This avoids the use of conventional binder systems such as PUCB systems and is therefore significantly more environmentally friendly. In addition to the environmental benefits, foundries can also better meet the mechanical and productivity requirements of complex precision castings with feeders made from the new material.
