Continuous Galvanizing Lines are used to coat cold rolled steel sheets with zinc.
Therefore, the steel strip is heated up in a controlled manner for recrystallization heat treatment followed by controlled cooling in order to achieve the desired mechanical properties followed by an immersion in amolten zinc bath. The surplus of molten zinc is wipied off by an air knife in order to adjust the coating thickness.
In the stat of the art concept the furnace is heated with natural gas leading to a specific local CO₂ Emission in the range of 200-300 Kg per ton of final product.
In the GREEN CGL, the furnace is operated with a combination of electrical radiant tubes and hydrogen-burners.
With this technology, Andritz enables the customer to operate the CGL withopt local CO₂ Emissions and to be indenpendent of fossile fuels. When using renewable electricity, the total CO₂ Emissions can be reduced by more than 90%.
