International technology group ANDRITZ has received an order from Steel Dynamics Inc. for the supply of key process equipment for the existing continuous galvanizing line (CGL) #1 furnace at the Columbus, Mississippi plant.
The scope of supply includes engineering and delivery of a new Direct Fired Furnace (DFF), new Differential Rapid Jet Cooling (DRJC), and After Pot Coolers (APC). The project will be implemented during the fourth quarter of 2020. The ANDRITZ delivery also includes the supply of model-predictive Advanced Furnace Control (AFC) for the complete furnace sections as well as the automation & electrical equipment, and supervision of erection and commissioning.
Modification of the current CGL#1 furnace will allow Steel Dynamics Columbus to produce Advanced High Strength Steels (AHSS) for the automotive industry (e.g. dual-phase steel DP980).
Steel Dynamics is one of the largest domestic steel producers and metals recyclers in the United States based on estimated annual steelmaking and metals recycling capability, with facilities located throughout the United States, and in Mexico. Steel Dynamics produces steel products, including hot-rolled, cold-rolled, and coated sheet steel, structural steel beams and shapes, rails, engineered special-bar-quality steel, cold-finished steel, merchant bar products, specialty steel sections, and steel joists and deck.
Berneck ordered a pressurized refining and an evaporation system
International technology Group ANDRITZ has received an order from Berneck S.A. to supply a pressurized refining and evaporation system for their third MDF production line in Lages, Brazil.
Start-up of the new equipment is scheduled for the end of 2020.
The new MDF production line will include the first MDF effluent treatment evaporation plant from ANDRITZ to be installed in Brazil. The centerpiece of the new line will be the pressurized refining system including an S2064M refiner with a capacity of 1,150 t/d, which will process 100% softwood (Pinus elliottii & Pinus taeda) as raw material. Predominant features of the ANDRITZ pressurized refining systems are highly efficient pre-steaming, low electricity and thermal energy consumption, as well as excellent dewatering in the plug screw feeder, which is essential for the customer due to the high moisture content of the raw material. The scope of supply also includes the steel structure, and supervision of installation and commissioning.
The comprehensive concept proposed, including the pressurized refining system and wastewater reduction by means of evaporation technology, was the main reason why ANDRITZ was awarded the contract. This order further enhances ANDRITZ’s leading position in the Brazilian panelboard industry, with nearly twenty references.
