Danieli Corus has signed a contract with DK Recycling und Roheisen for the reline of the hearth of Blast Furnace No. 3 at its Duisburg plant in Germany. The scope of work includes design and supply, demolition, construction works and commissioning supervision. The existing hearth refractories will be replaced from the bottom plate of the furnace up to and including the tuyère band. Relining will take place between the end of May and the end of July, 2016. Blast Furnace No. 3 has a 580 m³ working volume and produces up 1 200 t/day of specialty pig iron. The product mix includes one hundred specialty pig iron varieties and the furnace is also used to produce pig iron alloys specifically to a client’s specification. DK Recycling und Roheisen recycles substantial quantities of iron-bearing waste materials that are typically rich in elements that are detrimental for the blast furnace process, such as zinc. Special measures enable the blast furnace to process this material, but this introduces additional loadings and chemical attack on the blast furnace lining and the Danieli Corus design has been selected as the best solution for the next campaign. Danieli Corus was contracted by DK Recycling und Roheisen for many revamp projects in the past and this order confirms the excellent relationship with this client. Earlier, Danieli Corus was contracted for the reline of the bosh area of the same blast furnace as well as the replacement of its hot blast main.
