Quotient pyrometer for industrial applications

DIAS Infrared expands its range of ratio pyrometers. Pyrometers can be used for non-contact measurement of temperatures based on Planck's law of radiation. Especially in the industrial environment there are applications where the emissivity of the measuring object is unknown or changes over time. Also dust, absorbing gases or windows lead to transmission losses in the optical path between the measuring object and the pyrometer and are therefore sometimes critical.

Compared to the often used single channel pyrometers, which work in a single wavelength range, so-called ratio pyrometers (also called ratio pyrometers) can help with these problems. They measure the infrared radiation emitted by the target in two adjacent wavelength ranges. If the emissivities in both wavelength ranges are unknown or variable, but identical (or almost identical), an almost emissivity-independent temperature measurement is possible. Also, the transmission losses mentioned above do not matter if they are the same in both wavelength ranges.

Quotient pyrometers are part of the PYROSPOT pyrometers from DIAS Infrared, which have been proven worldwide for many years. They are currently available in the stationary PYROSPOT series 10, 11, 44, 54, 55 and 56, partly also with fiber optics and attachment optics. All ratio pyrometers are for example well suited for temperature measurements on metallic surfaces.

In contrast to single-channel pyrometers, ratio pyrometers can also indicate the correct temperature when measuring objects with high temperatures relative to the surroundings are smaller than the measuring field. However, this requires optimized optical conditions in the ratio pyrometer. One example is the DSRF 44N fiber optic device, which enables temperature measurement even with only low measuring field filling (up to 10%).
