Swiss Steel uses digitalization to track emissions
Swiss Steel Group has placed an order with SMS group for the delivery of its Viridis Carbon Software for its production plant Steeltec, based in Emmenbrücke, Switzerland. This milestone marks a significant step forward in enhancing Swiss Steel Group’s sustainability initiatives. In a first step, the melt shop, rolling mill, and bright bar plant in Emmenbrücke, Switzerland, will be equipped with the software. The Viridis Carbon Software, a module of the Viridis Energy and Sustainability Suite, enables near real-time tracking of the emissions generated in a plant. It uses a methodology based on robust computational models, which can compute and report the amount of CO2 equivalent being generated in the company at any time. The software calculates the Product Carbon Footprint, i.e. the amount of CO2 equivalent emitted in the production of every unit of finished products that leaves the industrial plant, considering all relevant emission Scopes. In addition to the license and software implementation, the agreement with Swiss Steel Group includes cloud services and support and maintenance services, encompassing user support, fixing defects and bugs, and the rights to use new releases. The partnership between SMS and Swiss Steel Group exemplifies a shared vision of sustainable and responsible industrial practices. With the installation of Viridis Carbon, Steeltec will be equipped to meet the ever-increasing demands for responsible and energy-efficient management in the steel industry. Source: SMS group
