By offering low carbon steel tubes from Van Leeuwen Pipe and Tube Group and ArcelorMittal Europe - Tubular Products, companies in the construction and engineering industries can reduce their carbon footprint as part of their Scope 3 emissions, which is built into the products they purchase.
XCarb® recycled and sustainably manufactured steel tubes manufactured by ArcelorMittal and distributed by Van Leeuwen Pipe and Tube Group can help companies reduce CO2 emissions by up to 75 percent compared to conventionally manufactured steel tubes.
Sustainable XCarb® steel
The pipes are made from recycled and sustainably produced XCarb® steel, which is manufactured in an electric arc furnace (EAF) using a high percentage of scrap and 100 percent renewable electricity for the EAF. The electricity used comes from renewable sources such as wind and solar and is supplied through an approved guarantee of origin plan. These steel pipes are the first on the market to offer such a significant reduction in CO2 emissions and have an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) to provide customers with full data transparency.
"It is a pleasure to work closely with our customers and to join efforts to achieve our common goal of net zero emissions." I would like to thank Van Leeuwen for their trust and for the commitment they have shown in selling structural hollow sections with low CO2 emissions made from recycled and sustainably produced XCarb® steel," said Adrian Alecu, Head of Business Development, ArcelorMittal Europe - Tubular Products.
Climate goals of the companies
Van Leeuwen has strategic goals regarding climate action, the partnership entered into a big part of this. The company is continuously working to identify and reduce its carbon footprint throughout the value chain. It is also cooperating with suppliers to manufacture and distribute pipes with a low carbon footprint. The cooperation between the two companies was launched at Van Leeuwen's headquarters in Zwijndrecht. In the presence of employees, the truck arrived with the first shipment of low carbon steel pipes.
"As a leader in the industry, Van Leeuwen takes its responsibility to improve sustainability and enable its customers to do the same very seriously. It is our goal to be the most sustainable pipe manufacturer in our industry. That's why we work with strong partners like ArcelorMittal to offer pipes on the market that have a low carbon footprint," says Steven Ruijters, managing director of the Dutch Van Leeuwen companies.
Applications
