Innovative business model: Sand as a Service (SaaS)
As part of the new partnership, AGVS is integrating Resand's foundry sand reprocessing solution into its manufacturing processes. The underlying service concept is based on a usage-oriented "sand-as-a-service" approach. Regeneration takes place directly at the foundry in Villingen-Schwenningen, allowing the reprocessed sand to be reused immediately. The target volume is approximately 9,000 tons per year, including various sand types such as green and cold-box sand.
According to AGVS, the decisive factors for the collaboration were primarily the combination of immediate availability, proven technology, and a compelling business model. A key objective is to significantly reduce the need for new sand. Simultaneously, the aim is to shorten transport routes, lower emissions, and minimize landfill volumes.
For Resand, the cooperation represents a further step in expanding its market presence. CEO Mikko Immonen emphasizes that industrial customers with complex requirements, in particular, will benefit from the solution and can achieve both economic and environmental advantages in the long term.
Spotlight on Resand Ltd
Industrial sand is becoming an increasingly scarce resource worldwide. However, the recycling and reuse of foundry sand offers an effective way to reduce the demand for newly mined sand and limit negative impacts on ecosystems. The Finnish company Resand Ltd specializes in precisely this and provides its customers with recycled sand resources as part of a service concept. With Resand® technology, foundry sand can be recycled almost entirely, while simultaneously reducing transportation costs and CO₂ emissions.
Resand’s headquarters are located in Nuutajärvi, Finland. In addition, the company has teams in several European countries and is pursuing an ambitious growth strategy—both within Europe and in international markets. The goal is to establish the circular use of sand as an industry standard.
