ArcelorMittal announces the launch of new low-carbon steel pipes. This new solution, made from recycled and renewably produced XCarb® steel, has up to 75% less CO2 equivalent - one of the highest CO2 reduction rates in the steel pipe industry. Using XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel pipe enables customers to reduce the global carbon footprint of their projects, products and finished goods to meet their own decarbonization targets and align with the Paris climate goals and the European Green Deal.
Possible uses
The application areas of steel tubes include various structural applications such as building frames and sprinkler systems, solar structures, windmills, scaffolding, or machinery used. ArcelorMittal Europe - Tubular Products is the largest manufacturer of steel tubes, producing at 15 sites in Europe and standing alongside its customers to participate in this transformation.
ArcelorMittal Europe - Tubular Products can manufacture and offer the first low-carbon hollow sections made of recycled and renewable XCarb® steel. This seal of approval applies to steels produced in an electric arc furnace using a high percentage of scrap and 100 percent renewable electricity. The electricity used comes from renewable sources such as wind and solar and is supplied through a recognized certificate of origin system.
Lower CO2 impact
Customers can use the figures provided in the company's Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) to calculate the total CO2 impact of its low-carbon steel pipes. EPDs are publicly available documents based on a life cycle assessment methodology and independently certified by a third party.
