New Inorganic Additives
17/05/2012
Constantly rising demands on quality and environmental compatibility confront foundries and their suppliers with an ever increasing array of new challenges. In addition to increasing productivity, meeting environmental and industrial safety regulations represents one of the factors of success for foundries, a challenge that requires constant supervision and ongoing development of existing processes and operations.
An efficient solution for high-quality casting production with reduced or even zero emissions is the usage of inorganic binder systems and additives. Sand core additives, used for defect-free production of complex and core intensive castings, are available in organic and inorganic qualities. To reduce gas and smoke emissions and take part in trading CO2 emission allowances, the foundry industry is invited to reduce the overall emissions of CO2 by using low-carbon products. The regular organic additives contain approx. 40 % 60 % of carbon; completely inorganic additives do not contain any carbon. The results of intensive research on inorganic core sand additives will be presented by Hüttenes-Albertus at the GIFA 2011.
