SILCA presents the new CALCAST-G

SILCA supplies high temperature insulation materials and is specialised in lightweight insulation technology and engineering. During the GIFA, the company presents newly developed materials on the basis of CALCAST, a high density calcium silicate, which is produced by the mother company CALSITHERM in Paderborn, Germany.

The new CALCAST-G is a compound consisting of high density calcium silicate and various amounts of graphite. It combines favourable properties of both materials, resulting in a special performance when used in liquid non-ferrous metals, especially aluminium alloys. The tailored thermal conductivity and reduced thermal expansion improve shock resistance. The graphite lubricates and seals the surface, minimizing oil absorption even at high temperatures without additional coating. It can be used for t-plates, hot tops, skim dams, spouts, floats and stoppers.
