Posco 4th in global steel production

Posco ranked fourth in global steel makers last year based on crude steel production, up one notch from the previous year. The company marked the achievement thanks to a smaller cut in steel production compared with its global rivals amid the U.S.-originated global financial crisis. In stark contrast, two major Japanese steel makers, Nippon Steel and JFE Steel Corp., fell to eighth and ninth, respectively. The Japanese companies cut production up to 30 %, while Posco slashed less than 10 %. In 2009, Posco produced 31.1 million t of crude steel, down 6 % from the 33.1 million % in 2008.
